Samford fought back from a one-point halftime deficit to upend Alabama State University 12-7 at Bobby Bodwon Field-Pete Hanna Stadium on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs improved to 1-2 on the season while the Hornets dropped to 1-2.
Marcus Harris II led all Hornets rushers with 58 yards and one touchdown, picking up 5.3 yards per carry. Jamarie Hostzclaw added 34 yards on the ground, averaging 4.2 yards per carry.
Bakari Dailey reeled in two catches for 51 yardsm including a 47-yard catch to set up the Hornet first .
Rhoody Jean-Louis showed out for the Alabama State defense, collecting one interception. Teamadded and Jalen Jones had in the loss.
The Hornets won the turnover battle in Saturday’s game, forcing one turnover while avoiding any giveways.
Defensively, Alabama State held up fairly well against the Samford offensive attack, holding the Bulldogs to 305 total yards.How It Happened
Alabama State got on the scoreboard first with 7:58 left in the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead.
Samford scored on a scored on a touchdown pass from Quincy Crittendon to Iaan Cousing with 5:56 to go in the second quarter. Maurice Lapierre blocked the PAT to keep the lead 7-6 at the half.
The Bulldogs took the lead for good on a Demonta Wilkerson one-yard touchdown to lead 12-7 after a failed two-point conversion attempt.Game Notes
